About the museum
The museum is devoted to Francisco Cerezo Moreno, a painter born in Villargordo in 1919 and died in 2006, who spent most of his life in Jaén and also worked as a restorer. In 1995 the Diputación de Jaén and the town council of Villatorres signed an agreement to rehabilitate the village's former town hall and adapt it as the museum's home. It opened on 21 March 1998, and the artist himself gave his collection to the town.
The building, facing the main square, has five rooms over two floors. The collection brings together more than 150 works by Cerezo Moreno, including still lifes, landscapes, portraits and drawings, as well as paintings by other artists from Jaén. A distinctive ensemble is the collection of La Granja glass, which the painter used as a motif in his still lifes.
Every year the museum organises the “Cerezo Moreno” International Painting Competition, with the awards presented in the building itself, and a programme of exhibitions and activities.
