About the museum
The Museo Internacional de Arte Naïf de Jaén, also known as “Manuel Moral”, grew out of the legacy of the naïve painter Manuel Moral Mozas, from Torredelcampo, who left part of his work and personal collection to the Diputación (provincial council). The Diputación then invited artists and collectors to donate works, and an exhibition held in 1988 spurred further donations.
Between 1988 and 1990 the museum occupied three rooms of the Palacio de Villardompardo; on 20 December 1990 it was inaugurated in a new building in the left wing of the palace. It was the first museum in Spain dedicated to this style.
The collection exceeds 600 works, some 250 by Spanish artists and some 150 by foreign artists. It is divided into a national section, with ten rooms (three of them dedicated to Manuel Moral Mozas, Miguel García “Vivancos” and Lorenzo Aparicio “El Boliche”), and an international section of three rooms.
