About the museum
The Museo de Arte Sacro de Écija occupies the Church of Santa Cruz and was founded on the initiative of the priest Antonio Pérez Daza, with the aim of conserving, publicising and exhibiting the valuable historical and artistic heritage of the churches of Écija.
The church holds Visigothic capitals and a sarcophagus, a Mudéjar arch with stucco work, an 18th-century high altarpiece and the chapel of the Virgen del Valle, dedicated to the city’s patron saint. Of the old building, a Mudéjar arch and part of the cloister and of the tower survive, the latter an elegant Renaissance tower decorated with tiles. The works on display are mainly religious pieces from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
