About the museum
The Museo de la Conserva, also known as La Fábrica Vieja (the old factory), is housed in the former El Navarrico factory on Calle Ribera in San Adrián (Navarre). It occupies more than 300 square metres and was founded to preserve the history of the town's canning industry.
Canning shaped the development of San Adrián. In 1888 the Obrador de Máximo Muerza was opened, and over the 20th century the industry transformed the economy, the urban layout and the population, which grew from around 841 inhabitants at the end of the 19th century to more than 6,200 today.
The route is guided, educational and immersive, and runs in chronological order from the early years of the industry to the expansion of the town. It includes old canning machines and techniques, photographs, objects, testimonies from residents, audiovisuals, projections and interactive displays. The museum has a gourmet shop and offers spaces for events.
