About the museum
The Museo Würth La Rioja opened its doors on 7 September 2007 to show in Spain works from the Würth Collection, one of the largest private collections of contemporary art in Europe, which the entrepreneur Reinhold Würth began to assemble in the seventies. Since 2004 there has also been the Colección Würth España, made up mostly of works by contemporary Spanish artists, including local creators.
The museum is not in an urban centre, but in the El Sequero industrial estate of Agoncillo, integrated into the headquarters of Würth España and next to its logistics warehouse, offices and a bodega (winery). This location reflects the company’s idea that art is part of working life. The building, designed by Ingeniería Master and built by Torrella, is organised over four levels and two parallel blocks joined by a large atrium covered by a glass roof of 1,400 m². It has some 3,100 m² of exhibition space and a sculpture garden.
Admission is free, as Würth España bears the full cost of the visit. The programme combines temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art with the permanent collection and free cultural and educational activities, such as guided tours, workshops, inclusive programmes and a summer lab for children.
