About the museum
The Museo de la Verdura opened in 2010 in the old town of Calahorra, to present the work of the Ebro valley market gardens and to strengthen the identity of the city as the vegetable capital. It is the only museum in Spain dedicated exclusively to horticulture and its transformation.
The building is the former San Francisco convent, dating from the 16th century, of which the brick façade facing the Cuesta de la Catedral has been preserved. It was rehabilitated in 2002 for its new use and now offers about 440 m² of exhibition space over two floors.
The route is organised into six areas: the land and its people, agriculture, the vegetables of the land (asparagus, cardoon, artichoke, pepper, cauliflower and others), preserving, other preservation methods, and gastronomy. As well as traditional farm implements, kitchen utensils and costumes made from vegetables for the catwalk of the Jornadas de la Verdura, the museum has touch screens, audiovisuals and interactive games designed for all audiences.
