About the museum
The MIHACALE occupies an industrial complex made up of La Panera, a wheat and flour warehouse from 1937 built with rammed-earth walls and a timber structure, and the “Marina Luz” flour mill, rebuilt in 1944–1945 after a fire. After its rehabilitation, the complex opened as a cultural space on 9 August 2014.
The former factory is the museum proper. It retains inside the machinery with which wheat was turned into flour, through the processes of cleaning, grinding and sifting, and it has been restored and set up to explain both milling techniques and the industrial and labour history of the company. The building has three floors: a semi-basement, the first floor for grinding and the second for sifting.
La Panera is used for cultural activities: the ground floor houses the visitor reception, the wheat classroom (aula del trigo) and an auditorium for 300 people, and the upper floor has a large hall for temporary exhibitions.
