About the museum
The partial collapse of the church of San Esteban in Villamayor de Campos, which occurred in 1999, left the timber roof of the main chapel standing. The Junta de Castilla y León restored the church and used that surviving part to house the display on carpintería de lo blanco (“white woodwork”), one of the most characteristic expressions of Mudéjar art.
The centre brings together explanatory panels, models, tools and infographic material that document the history of this craft and the techniques used by Gothic and Renaissance carpenters. The preserved roof of the main chapel also serves as a real example of what the exhibition explains.
