Museo de la Miel y las Abejas Rancho Cortesano

Honey and bee museum on an organic estate near Jerez, with guided visits, honey tastings and beehives.

About the museum

The Museo de la Miel y las Abejas is part of Rancho Cortesano, a family beekeeping business in the countryside around Jerez that has been working with bees for some thirty years. The company looks after around 2,000 hives spread across some forty apiaries in the lowlands, the sierra and the hills of the province of Cádiz, and produces organic honey bearing the quality mark of the Parques Naturales de Andalucía and organic certification. It has won five first prizes in the Andalusian honey competition.

The museum explains the whole honey-making process, the therapeutic uses of hive products and how bees organise their colony. A guide leads the visit in the group's language and adapts the content to visitors. The route allows visitors to see a hive without bees, to watch how wax, pollen and royal jelly are made, and to taste honeys and other hive products.

The estate completes the visit with apiaries that can be toured dressed as a beekeeper, workshops on wax, pottery and seasonal fruit, a shop selling honeys, meloja (honeydew honey), pollen, propolis, soaps and natural cosmetics, and an organic restaurant. There are outdoor activities every weekend.
