About the museum

The Museo del Motor is located within the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto, a permanent track that opened in 1985. The following year it hosted its first Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, in which Ayrton Senna beat Nigel Mansell by just 14 thousandths of a second, and since 1987 it has been part of the World Motorcycle Championship calendar without interruption. The town’s link with motorcycle racing is older: as early as the 1960s the Trofeo de la Merced was held on its streets.

The museum is a permanent exhibition devoted to motor sport. It brings together historic motorcycles and cars and objects belonging to well-known riders, such as a racing suit of Jorge Lorenzo and helmets that belonged to Dani Pedrosa, Ayrton Senna, Ángel Nieto, Jarno Trulli and Pedro de la Rosa.

A visit to the museum is combined with a guided tour of the circuit’s facilities and requires a prior booking. The route includes the Race Control room, from which track services are coordinated, the press room, the conference room, the podium and the viewing platform known as the “OVNI” (UFO). A visit to the museum alone is only available on event days when the shop is open; these dates are announced in advance on the circuit’s website.
