About the museum
The Museo de la Sidra Valdeaniezo is in Aniezo, a village in the municipality of Cabezón de Liébana, and is linked to the cider house and restaurant La Retoría. It occupies a building more than two hundred years old, spread over two floors and around 150 square metres, which also serves as a setting for showing how people lived in a traditional Liébana house.
The exhibition is divided into four sections: the making of natural cider by traditional methods, from picking the apples through to bottling and corking; traditional Liébana cooking; the use of cork and its uses in the valley; and a wood-fired bread oven with the utensils needed to make tortas (flatbreads).
The visit is guided and ends with a free tasting of Valdeaniezo cider, made in-house. In the same village, in the central area, visitors can also see the Parque del Agua, a free-access site with a batán (fulling mill), a mill and other water-powered structures.
