About the museum
The museum opened on 3 May 2023 in the tower beside the 12th-century Romanesque church of San Martín de Tours. The tower has four floors of about 24 m² each and a bell-tower viewpoint, linked by a stone spiral staircase. The floors explain the history and culture of the village, including the campaign against the Yesa reservoir, and the Roman remains found in the municipal area.
Original pieces from the Roman sites of Artieda are displayed, such as coins, a marble hand and two funerary stone slabs (lápidas), and a reproduction of the two-colour mosaic of the 1st century discovered in 2021 at El Forau de la Tuta, with a scene of a sea procession. The museum also tells the story of the Roman city and of its excavation.
The municipality's tourism coordinator manages the visits, with the help of volunteers from the Asociación Artieda Romana, which also organizes the Jornadas Romanas (Roman Days). From the top floor of the tower you can see the Canal de Berdún, the Roncal valley and the Yesa reservoir.
