About the museum
The Carnival museum of Isla Cristina opened in 2007 in a former 19th-century tenement courtyard that was renovated at the start of the 21st century, the Casa Patio San Francisco, which also houses the municipal tourist office. The town council now presents it as the Muestra del Carnaval, an exhibition space on the first floor of the building devoted to the history, creativity and essence of the island's festival.
Through costumes, posters and audiovisual resources, visitors learn about the origins of the Carnival, its organisation, its music and the most representative elements of the festival, from the creation of a lyric or melody to the craftsmanship that gives shape to the costumes.
The space has recently been expanded with the immersive room Carnaval Experience, a ten-minute audiovisual projection, and with an area dedicated to the floats and to the island artist Horacio Noguera, as well as a section on Ash Wednesday.
