About the museum
The Museo del Esparto de El Garrobillo, in a rural district (diputación) of Águilas, is a privately owned ethnographic collection run by an association. It focuses on the craft of working esparto grass, a fibre of great economic importance in the early 20th century.
As well as esparto, it has an ethnography section with pottery, glassware, popular utensils and traditional costumes. It is a different museum from the Museo y Centro de Difusión del Esparto, opened in 2019 beside the Molino de Sagrera in the old town of Águilas.
