About the museum
The Sala Museo José Matrán holds a wide collection of works by the Águilas-born artist José Matrán. He was born in Lorca in 1888, but a few days later he was taken to Águilas, where he lived until his death in 1968. He developed his entire career there, worked with very different techniques and excelled in all of them.
He was the creator of negative drawing on celluloid, and also a photographer, painter and draughtsman. The works shown in the room were donated to the town council by the Matrán family and are kept in the Casa de Cultura.
