About the museum
The Museo del Títere, also called the Museo Iberoamericano del Títere, is a municipal space in Cádiz dedicated to exhibiting, documenting and preserving the work of puppeteers, companies, craftspeople and creators from Spain and abroad. It is run by the Municipal Culture Foundation of the town council and opened to the public on 9 August 2012.
It is located in the Bóvedas de Santa Elena, next to the Puertas de Tierra, one of the city's symbols. The historic building was adapted for museum use: it occupies some 1,500 m² across eighteen restored vaults on two levels, and the former outer guard courtyard was turned into a garden with areas for performances.
The permanent exhibition, “Marionetas del Mundo”, draws on a collection of more than 500 pieces, around 350 of them international, which the town council acquired from Ismael Peña in 2008.
According to municipal information, the museum has been closed to the public since 5 March 2026, until maintenance and improvement works are completed, with no reopening date announced.
