About the museum
The museum occupies the interior of the Alcázar de los Condestables, known as “Las Torres”, a fortified palace built in the 14th century by the Velasco lineage, which retains Mudejar traces and was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1931. The building was adapted to house the museum, which belongs to the Red de Museos of the Junta de Castilla y León.
The route is spread over four floors. There is a room dedicated to the history of the region and another to the Merindades, and the remaining rooms are organised by theme: ethnography, fine arts and archaeology. Loaned pieces are kept, such as a cross from the Hospital de la Vera Cruz from the late 14th or early 15th century, a 13th-century keystone with a heraldic castle, and several stelae from the 12th and 13th centuries.
The visit includes the Sala Noble, furnished in the style of the 16th century, and the terrace on the fourth floor, with views over the town and its surroundings. The museum also organises activities for all audiences and temporary exhibitions.
