About the museum
The Museo Histórico Militar de Valencia is a state museum of the Ministry of Defence, attached to the Spanish Army. It opened on 12 May 1995 with the aim of making the Army and its history better known. It is housed in the San Juan de Ribera barracks, in the La Alameda area, in the heart of the city and beside the former course of the Turia river, now a large garden.
The route is divided into several themed rooms: ammunition, artillery, firearms, the room of the Tercios (the military organisation of the Spanish monarchy) and “La batalla contra el barro”. Among the pieces that attract the most attention from visitors is a sanitary disinfection cart from 1922. The museum also has a library, which is accessed with a DNI (identity card) or passport, and a shop and bookshop, and it organises temporary exhibitions.
Admission is free. Guided tours are available, and groups must always request them in advance.
