Museo de la Ciudad de Valencia

Municipal museum in the Palacio del Marqués de Campo with the city's historical collection; under works to house the Sorolla collection.

Opening hoursAdmission €2 Partially accessible
Limited operations. Since 7 September 2026, improvement and security works have been under way in the palace to house the Sorolla collection; the Valencia tourism website lists the museum as “temporarily closed”. It is advisable to confirm opening before a visit.

About the museum

The museum is housed in the Palacio del Marqués de Campo, a 19th-century stately home in the historic centre of Valencia, on the Plaza del Arzobispo. It holds the city's municipal heritage: archaeological remains, religious objects, coins, documents, prints, furniture and ceramics.

Alongside its own collection, the museum stages temporary exhibitions, mainly of Valencian artists, and has an assembly hall. The building consists of an old palace and a more modern extension, connected to each other.

The City Council has announced improvement and security works for the building, which began on 7 September 2026, in order to temporarily house more than 200 works by Joaquín Sorolla from the Hispanic Society of America. The works are expected to arrive in November 2026 and will be shown to the public in early 2027, until the museum's permanent home is ready. The City Council also plans to recover the Palacio de los Marqueses de Montortal as a second venue for the museum.

There is a step at the outer door and another at the inner door; a 14% ramp leads from the cobbled courtyard to reception, through a 90 cm wide double glass door. The old palace has three floors and two attic levels; a lift serves all floors except the attics, which are reached by stairs only. The modern extension has four floors connected by stairs and 10% ramps, and a 12% ramp links it to the palace on the first floor. The assembly hall is on the ground floor of the extension and is reached by ramps; there are no adapted toilets or reserved parking spaces.
