About the museum
The museum occupies a 17th- and 18th-century building of rammed earth (tapial), a good example of vernacular architecture, in the Barrio del Castillo of Molina de Segura. Its Moorish-style oven (horno morisco) is older than the house: the earliest reference dates from 1491, when the Marquises of Vélez administered the town. It was used for at least five hundred years, until the 1970s.
The museum opened in 2010 and explains the history of bread in the life of the town, with an audiovisual on the bakers and the types of bread, projected onto the walls of the oven. Under the same roof, the Casa del Folclore displays the traditional music and dance of Molina; in the former cistern, panels tell the story of a baker who won over the governor's daughter with a special loaf, the “pan de amor” (love bread).
