About the museum
The museum displays the painting collection assembled over his lifetime by the Tudela painter César Muñoz Sola (1921–2000), together with a representative selection of his own work. It opened in 2003 in a building in the old town of Tudela, next to the town hall.
The venue is a former palace-house of the Veráiz family, a noble lineage from Tudela. In the arcade on the first floor it keeps a Gothic voussoir bearing the family coat of arms, and two vaulted stone cellars that now serve as a workshop and classroom. In 1768 the building was given a Baroque remodelling.
The permanent collection, of around 156 works, focuses on 19th-century French painting, with portraits, still lifes, landscapes and genre scenes, as well as some 20th-century pieces. The museum has been extended with a space for temporary exhibitions, which previously meant withdrawing part of the collection.
