Limited operations. Because of renovation works in Room II (the exhibition room), only Room I (the audiovisual room) is currently open.

About the museum

The museum occupies the former storehouse of the Almadraba, a tuna-fishing installation that for many years was the island's main economic driver. After being rehabilitated as a service building, it has housed the museum since May 2004, and the original floor plan has been preserved.

Room I is a reception audiovisual room with backlit historic photographs of the island's people, landscapes and customs, a display case entitled “Una isla en una vitrina” (“An island in a display case”) about its heritage, and an audiovisual on human beings and the sea. Room II is an educational exhibition on the island's geography, geology, marine biodiversity and ethnographic heritage, and on its origins as a civil and military project of the 18th century; it includes a raised area for school activities and talks.
