About the museum
The museum was founded in 1982 in the Casal of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres on the initiative of Joaquim Bertran. Its aim was to gather, classify, study and display objects and documents of local history. The first pieces were old objects donated by residents or collected by Bertran himself.
Bertran's passion for photography led him to document the public events of the town for years, and those images became part of the archive. His interest later extended to cameras, film equipment and radios, which now form part of the collection of historical objects. In 1997 the museum moved to Ca l'Alfaro, and in 2004 it was installed in Can Caralt.
Can Caralt is an 18th-century masia that Josep Caralt i d'Argila transformed into a manor house in the second half of the 19th century. Today the museum holds more than 4,000 objects, more than 300 paintings and sculptures, and an archive with documents dating back to the 16th century. It forms part of the network of local museums of the Diputació de Barcelona.
