About the museum
The Museu d'Arenys de Mar brings together two spaces under a single admission. The Museu Marès de la Punta, at number 43 on the calle de l'Església, opened on 13 March 1983, when the Generalitat de Catalunya deposited in the town the lace collection of Frederic Marès i Deulovol, on condition that it be shown under that name. New donations and acquisitions have expanded it into a reference collection in Europe.
The route traces the history of lace, born in Venice at the end of the 16th century and spread across Europe, with pieces from that century to today arranged by origin and technique: collars, handkerchiefs, fans, mantillas and shawls. Highlights include the bobbin lace of Flanders, French blonde lace, Le Puy lace and Modernista works from the Casa Castells in Arenys de Mar, and one room is devoted to the history of the town.
The Museu Mollfulleda de Mineralogia, at numbers 37–39 on the same street, was born in 1988, when Joaquim Mollfulleda i Borrell donated his mineral collection to the town council. He continued to expand it until his death in 2006. It shows what minerals are and what they are used for, with a selection arranged according to the Strunz classification, and the mineralogy and mining of Catalonia.
