About the museum
The Museu d'Art de Sabadell, known as MAS, is a municipal museum dedicated to art created in the city and to the artists who influenced it. Its home is the Casa Turull, a former house-factory linked to Sabadell's textile history. The building was constructed between 1812 and 1819 as the residence of the industrialist Pere Turull i Sallent; the city council acquired it in 1964, and it was renovated between 1993 and 1997 to house the museum.
The permanent collection traces local art from the early 19th century through to the 1960s of the 20th century, through works by the city's most representative artists and other creators who shaped its development. The current exhibition, entitled “La col·lecció, 1875-1936”, was presented in 1998 and is organised in two main phases: 19th-century academicism, and the period from Catalan Modernisme to the 1930s. Post-Civil War art forms part of the museum's narrative but is not shown permanently for lack of space.
The route covers four areas: 19th-century academicism, Modernisme and the decades up to 1936, the works in the courtyard and the sculptures on the street. The museum also offers visits and educational activities for school groups.
