About the museum

In 2007 the construction of an irrigation canal in the municipality of Artesa de Segre brought to light the remains of the megalithic monument of els Reguers de Seró. At first sight it was a typical megalithic burial tomb, with the usual stone structure and human remains accompanied by offerings such as ceramic vessels, necklaces and flint tools. The study of the engravings on some of the stones revealed that the builders of the tomb had reused the remains of three older menhir statues as raw material, one of them 7 metres high, the tallest of its type in Europe.

Since 2013 the archaeological remains have been displayed in the Espai Transmissor, a building by the architect Toni Gironès, inspired by the farms of the surroundings. The building has received, among other awards, the FAD Architecture Prize (2013), the Premio Nacional Hispalyt (2014) and the silver medal of the Fritz-Höger Architecture Award (2017). Natural light and basic materials such as ceramic, iron and wood make the visit an experience in itself.

The exhibition shows the human remains and objects found in the tomb, as well as the stones of the three menhir statues, which are some 5,000 years old.
