About the museum
The Museu del Turisme, known as MUTUR, opened on 9 January 2016 in the former Llobet-Guri factory, which local people call “the factory on the road”. The neoclassical building was designed in 1928–1929 by the architect Eusebi Bona i Puig, began operating in 1930 and was an important knitwear factory until 1978. It is municipally owned.
The exhibition follows the thread of a journey: the preparation, the transport and the souvenirs the traveller brings back. One room is dedicated to tourism in Calella and the arrival of the first visitors, and another part of the museum explains the relationship between the town's textile industry and its tourism development.
The museum also keeps a selection of machinery, tools and accessories from the textile sector. It offers guided tours for groups and schools in Catalan, Spanish and English.
