About the museum
The Museu de la Pagesia de Santa Susanna opened on 26 November 2011 as an ethnological museum devoted to the origins of the rural world. It was installed in a former masia restored for this purpose, near the Montnegre massif, and was conceived as an educational proposal combining the setting, images and new technologies.
The project was carried out with the support of the Unió de Pagesos, the Mercat de la Flor i Planta Ornamental de Catalunya and the Consorci Forestal de Catalunya, and is run by the company Tanit, didàctica i difusió cultural.
The visit explores the transformation of the landscape, rural architecture, the life of country people, and the present and future of agriculture in the Maresme. Outside the building there is a large natural area with a recreation of an experimental Neolithic habitat, a circular trail of fauna and flora, and a space designed for the youngest visitors. The museum also offers animated visits, experimental workshops and educational services for schools.
