About the museum
The Museu de la Porciúncula is part of the convent of the Franciscan TOR (Tertiary Order Regular) in s'Arenal, on the Platja de Palma. It is a small archaeological museum founded in 1965 by Joan Llabrés Ramis, with pieces from private collections. It occupies three rooms and a corridor, which also serve as exhibition space and were formerly seminary classrooms.
Its collections include sections on archaeology, ethnology and numismatics, all related to the history of Mallorca, from prehistory to the development of tourism, with archaeological objects and old everyday utensils.
The museum leads into the church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de la Porciúncula, known as the “glass church” because of the coloured stained-glass windows that cover its oval ground plan. On ordinary days, outside liturgical celebrations, the church can only be entered through the museum. The complex is surrounded by gardens and pine woods and has free parking on the estate.
