About the museum
The Palacio del Acebrón was built in the second half of the 20th century, at the beginning of the sixties according to some sources, as a private residence and hunting lodge for Luis Espinosa Fondevilla. It stands in a well-preserved area beside the La Rocina stream, within the Espacio Natural de Doñana, in the municipality of Almonte.
The building was later adapted to become one of the Doñana visitor centres. Its mission is to publicise the ethnographic heritage of the protected area, that is, the way in which the people of the surroundings have lived and worked in the marshland and its surroundings.
The interior route focuses on the exhibition “Doñana y el hombre”, which covers the traditional huts made from local plants, the organisation of families and trades such as hunting, fishing and livestock farming. It also addresses recent changes, such as strawberry cultivation and tourism, and traditions such as the Saca de las Yeguas and the Romería del Rocío. Next to the palace begins the circular trail of the Charco del Acebrón, which crosses a riverside forest. In January 2026 the centre reopened after refurbishment works to improve its facilities.
