About the museum
The Centro de Visitantes El Acebuche is the main gateway to the Doñana Natural Area from its southern side. It lies about three kilometres from Matalascañas, next to the A-483 road, and is reached by an asphalt track of about two kilometres. It is run by the Doñana Natural Area of the Junta de Andalucía.
The interpretive exhibition attempts to reassemble the mosaic of Doñana: beaches, marshes, forests, dunes and the transition zone known as the vera. It explains the importance of the wetland for numerous migratory birds, how the landscape changes through the seasons, and the traditional activities people have developed in this environment. A striking feature is a bird’s-eye view of Doñana, as on a balloon trip.
A screen shows live footage of the daily life of the Iberian lynxes at the El Acebuche captive-breeding centre, and next to the building there is a lynx observatory. The walking trails “Laguna del Acebuche” and “Lagunas del Huerto y las Pajas” start here, and the centre takes bookings for the off-road route Acebuche–La Plancha–Acebuche.
