About the museum
The interpretation centre “Salmantica Sedes Antiqua Castrorum” is an archaeological classroom on the Cuesta de Carvajal in Salamanca, which explains the city’s ancient walls. It preserves in situ remains of two of its defensive enclosures: the protohistoric hillfort wall dating from the 4th century BC and the first medieval enclosure of the 12th century.
The route allows visitors to see a long stretch of the wall and to understand, with panels, touch screens and audiovisuals, how the city changed from its pre-Roman settlement to the Middle Ages. The visit lasts about 45 minutes and admission is free.
