About the museum
The visitable collection opened in 2015 in the Casa da Cultura of Carral to display objects found in the excavations of the castro das Travesas, also called Eira dos Mouros, and to explain their historical value. The archaeological campaigns begun in 2006 documented the first occupation of the settlement between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.
The room presents almost 300 selected pieces and an explanation of the layout of the settlement, in eight thematic units: its strategic position, its size, the excavation of the entrances with their symbolic and monumental aspects, the oldest phase (4th century BC), later works and a votive deposit (3rd–2nd centuries BC), everyday pottery, the Roman period, with a small treasure and a ring of British origin, and a section of curiosities.
The visit can be complemented by guided walks around the castro itself and the castro of Tabeaio, another fortified settlement in the comarca of Betanzos, linked to the Camino Inglés.
