About the museum

Aeroseum is located in a large underground rock hangar at Säve on Hisingen. The hangar was completed around 1955 as part of Göta flygflottilj, F 9, and was built deep inside the rock as protection against the threat of nuclear weapons during the Cold War. The facility holds about 22,000 square metres underground and, in addition, a large area of land on top of the rock.

The idea of an aviation history experience centre in the rock hangar was developed in the late 1990s. Since 1 January 2008 Aeroseum has been part of the network Sveriges militärhistoriska arv (Sweden’s Military Heritage). The main organiser is Aeroseum AB, and operations are carried out together with volunteers, including the association Aeroseums vänner (Friends of Aeroseum).

The collection comprises military and civil aircraft and helicopters, among them the Saab J 29 Tunnan, J 32 Lansen, Viggen and Hkp 10 Super Puma. Visitors can board some of the aircraft and try flying in the simulator hall. Plans include an aircraft park and a solar park on the rock.
