About the museum

Maritiman is a maritime experience centre in central Gothenburg, at Packhusplatsen on the northern bank of the Göta älv. A number of preserved ships, boats and barges with both military and civilian links are moored here. The operation is run as a private foundation, with a board and a council of principals (huvudmannaråd) that meets once a year.

The fleet consists of ten vessels. The destroyer Småland is one of the largest warships preserved as a museum ship in Scandinavia. The submarine Nordkaparen belongs to the Draken class, the longest submarine class Sweden has had, and was delivered to the navy in 1962. The monitor Sölve was built in 1875 in Norrköping, and the patrol boat Hugin is a Norwegian-built boat from 1978 that was taken out of service in 2001. Among the working vessels are the tug Herkules from 1939, the workshop vessel ESAB IV, the fireboat Flodsprutan II, the harbour tug Stormprincess and the harbour ferry Dan Broström.

Visitors can go on board, take part in guided ship walks and use a free audio guide in the app. Maritiman also has Virvelinas värld (Virvelina’s World) for the youngest, and an exhibition on espionage, Skuggornas värld (The World of Shadows).
