About the museum

The Radiomuseet is run by Radiohistoriska Föreningen i Västsverige (Radio History Association of Western Sweden), which was formed on 3 December 1983 at a conference at the Industrimuseet in Gothenburg. The initiative was taken by three radio amateurs, and the association was first allowed to show its radio sets at the Industrimuseet.

When the Industrimuseet faced closure, the association looked for premises of its own. On 5 March 1994 it was able to rent the long-empty former drawing office in Götaverken’s old shipyard area, and the museum is still there today.

The collections consist of radio sets and technology that members have gathered over the years. They are arranged in areas such as amateur radio, audio, radio valves, car radio, military radio, maritime radio, aviation radio, broadcasting, radio studio, fixed telephony, measuring instruments and television. The museum also has a library and searchable databases, and visitors can take part in the guided tour through a virtual tour on the website.
