About the museum
Akademiska Föreningens Arkiv & Studentmuseum, usually called AF:s Arkiv, is a collection of documents and objects about student life, mainly in Lund but also from other parts of the country. The archive is a sub-committee within Akademiska Föreningen (AF, the Academic Association). The origins of the archive are usually dated to 1915, when the student Ture “Tusse” Sjögren began systematically collecting newspaper cuttings and other historically valuable documents. Sjögren led the archive until 1962.
Since the early 1930s the archive has been located in specially fitted premises in the basement of the AF building (AF-borgen) at Sandgatan 2. The collections include documents from AF, Lunds Studentkår (the Lund Students' Union), the student nations and other student associations, newspaper cuttings, photographs, student revue scripts (spex), sound and film recordings, sheet music and a reference library, estimated at 300–400 shelf metres. The work is mainly carried out by volunteers under a foreman appointed by AF's board.
The archive looks after and displays historical objects from AF, the student unions, the nations and associations. Visitors can get anecdotes about student life in Lund and material for essays and articles, and guided tours of the AF building can be booked through the archive.
