About the museum
Tegnérmuseet is in the half-timbered house on Stora Gråbrödersgatan in Lund where the poet Esaias Tegnér (1782–1846) lived with his family while he was a professor at the university. In 1862 the building was threatened with demolition, but it was saved by the Tegnér Foundation (Tegnérstiftelsen), which then set up the museum.
The museum calls itself the oldest author museum in the Nordic countries. The home has been recreated with original furniture and objects connected with Tegnér, among them a writing desk in an older style with a portrait on the wall above it. Visitors get an impression of how a professor’s family lived in Lund during the first half of the 19th century.
Today Tegnérmuseet is run by Kulturen, which also runs its open-air museum, Livets museum and Hökeriet in Lund. The museum has limited opening hours, and private tours can be booked all year round.
