About the museum
The author Albert Viksten had a great dream: to create a memorial to the Swedish forest worker. With the help of many friends, a whole village of forest workers' huts and a log-driving museum were built next to Lassekrog inn in Färila parish. Finding usable old huts was difficult, as most had disappeared or been converted into summer cottages, so new huts were built after old models from southern Norrland.
The hut village was completed in September 1966 and was opened by county governor Jarl Hjalmarsson before a large audience. In the centre of the village stands a bust of Viksten on a grey stone block, created by the artist Per Nilsson-Öst and unveiled in 1989, a hundred years after the author's birth. The village contains reconstructed buildings linked to charcoal burning, forestry work and log driving.
The hut village is owned by Ljusdal Municipality, and the Albert Viksten Sällskapet (society) and Färila hembygdsförening (local heritage association) are involved in it. Every year during Färila Week an evening is held in the hut village, and the society offers guided tours. According to information from July 2026, the huts are in great need of renovation.
