About the museum

Bommars lies on the outskirts of Letsbo in north-western Hälsingland, and the farm's history goes back to the land register (jordeboken) of 1542, when it was called Oppigården. The old houses burned down in 1844, and the lay judge (nämndemannen) Sven Johansson had the new houses built in 1846–1848. The farm was not given the name Bommars until 1930.

The interior from 1848 is largely preserved. The festive hall stands out for its colourful stencil paintings between the wallpaper panels, and in the rooms upstairs there are marbling and wood-graining paintings. Many tools from everyday life on the farm remain, as do several outbuildings and a large cattle barn from the late 19th century.

Bommars is one of the seven Hälsingegårdar inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2012. The farm has been owned by the Envall family since 1969, and Karl-Erik Envall later took over the operation.
