About the museum
Alnö hembygdsgård lies at Tunet beside Alnö old church. Organized local heritage activity has existed at Kyrktunet since 1926, when a local heritage festival was held to raise money for the restoration of the old church. In the 1930s Elvagården and Hovidsgården were built, and Alnö Local Heritage Association was re-formed in 1942. Provost Gustav Mellberg was a driving force behind the work.
The site includes several buildings, among them Elvagården, Hovidsgården, Sätergården, the härbret (storehouse), the logen (lodge), the smithy, the sawframe house and a stone collection. There is also a complete bakehouse where the association bakes soft flatbread (mjukt tunnbröd) in a stone oven, a smithy and a café.
The exhibitions cover, among other things, the sawmill era and Alnö’s geology, and the farmsteads are shown to visitors at the association’s events. Tunet is a meeting place for Alnö residents at Midsummer, National Day, Walpurgis Night (Valborg) and the Christmas market.
