About the museum
The Appelbladska smedjan (Appelblad smithy) in Smedbyn in Huskvarna was built in 1827 and is named after the master locksmith Anders Johan Appelblad. The building is two storeys high, built of corner-notched logs, clad with Falu-red board-and-batten panelling and has a single-dormer tiled roof. The entrance to the upper floor is via an external staircase with a landing (svale).
The interior of the smithy, with its stove, forge hearth, bellows and several tools, is preserved. One flight up is the journeyman's room, with its original interior. The smithy was donated in 1928 to Huskvarna Local Heritage Society, and today the museum is run by the society.
According to the tourist portal, the only surviving one of Smedbyn's original smithies is open during the local heritage society's events. The society also shows two preserved flats in Smedbyn.
