About the museum
Bergmancenter lies in the middle of Fårö, near Fårö church. The Stiftelsen Bergmancenter (Bergman Centre Foundation) was formed in 2011 to manage and develop the public part of the legacy of Ingmar Bergman, who became linked to Fårö when he first visited the island in 1960 to find a location for the film Såsom i en spegel (Through a Glass Darkly).
The basic exhibition tells of Bergman's relationship with Fårö, of the films he shot on the island – among them Persona – and of the actors and creative elements of his film-making. There is also an Oscar statuette. Bergman's own home at Hammars is not open to the public, but a VR tour in the exhibition lets visitors walk through the house.
The centre also has a cinema with 64 seats, a reference library with literature about Bergman, a creative workshop for children and young people in summer, and Kafé Smultronstället (Café Wild Strawberry). The Bergmanveckan (Bergman Week) is held every summer.
