About the museum
Sjöräddningsmuseet in Ekeviken on Fårö is run by Fårö Local Heritage Association and shows Fårö’s lifeboat Skärsende, which between 1891 and 1943 helped rescue many people in distress at sea around Fårö, above all at the notorious Salvorev.
Next to the museum there is also a reconstructed käutabod, a small rest and overnight hut used during coastal seal hunting. Like fishing, seal hunting was once a vital livelihood for Fårö residents, and the hut displays the tools that were used.
