About the museum

The heritage farm Blanketorpet lies by the road between Färgelanda and Stigen in south-west Dalsland. In the late 18th century the croft Råbocketorpet stood here under Gatersbyn, and in the 1780s it was lived in by a family of the Blankenfjell family, whose name gave the present farm its name. The farm was built in 1824, and a gate stone in the stone wall tells of the farm’s origin.

The farm complex is well preserved and consists of a main house from 1824, a storehouse and a barn with older parts from the same period, as well as a younger forge. The whole garden is enclosed by a stone wall about 300 metres long, described as unique of its kind. There is also a complete shoemaker’s workshop with machines from the 1950s and 1960s and several agricultural tools showing the work on the farm.

In 1988 the farm was donated to Södra Valbo local heritage society by its owners, Karl and Linnea Olausson. On the site there is a trail with signs and QR codes about the farming year, fishing and more, which is accessible around the clock all year round. The heritage farm hosts, among other things, midsummer celebrations, open-air services, harvest days, lectures and social gatherings, and associations and groups can rent the main house.
