About the museum
Bohusläns Försvarsmuseum is located in the Regementsparken (Regiment Park) in Uddevalla, on the former site of I 17 next to the Bäveån river. The museum tells the story of the defence of Bohuslän and of the Bohuslän regiments, from the first Bohus regiment formed in 1614, when Bohuslän was still Norwegian, up to the modern regiment.
The collections include uniforms, weapons and equipment, models of Bohus Fortress and the Backamo training ground, and a silver treasure with three complete communion services that Queen Hedvig Eleonora gave to the regiment. Outside the museum stands Soldattorpet nr 57, a soldier’s cottage from 1775 that was moved to the park in 1921 and shows how the family of an allotted soldier (indelt soldat) lived in the 19th century.
The museum’s main exhibition, Sitt upp!, shows warfare in the Age of Greatness and how the warhorse came to play its role. The upper floor houses the regiment’s prizes and a music exhibition with old instruments. Other sections deal with Uddevalla’s defence installations and the bunker line at Skans U 405, the German aircraft shot down in 1940, and the First World War and the Home Guard in Bohuslän.
