About the museum
Emmaboda Local Heritage Society was formed on 30 September 1936 and has been run entirely on a voluntary basis since its start. The society preserves historic buildings and places and receives objects from the time when Emmaboda was a railway town with several industries. The Bökön local heritage farm lies close to the built-up area.
The main building, the storstugan (main house), is the western farm of the village of Gantesbo, which stood here before the railway came in the 1870s. The farm was moved to Bökön in 1930 and is today Emmaboda's oldest and best-preserved building. On the site there is also a wheel mill that was moved from Kärrebo in Hälleberga in 1955, a museum that is reported to have been built in 1968, a linbastu (traditional bathhouse), a cowshed, a small cottage, a stage and a lock-up (arrest).
At Bökön, among other things, Walpurgis Night and a Christmas market are celebrated, and the storstugan is rented out for private parties.
