About the museum
Flygtmuseet is located in Lindås outside Emmaboda, by the Lyckebyån, in a converted former starch factory. The museum was built in 2001, when the company turned 100. The history begins in 1901 with a small workshop and forge, which mainly made cast-iron moulds for the glassworks' pressed glass.
The brothers Stenberg later came into contact with the Stockholm engineer Hilding Flygt, who had helped electrify Sweden and now entered the pump industry. The first pumps were circulation pumps. Today the company is called Xylem and still manufactures Flygt pumps on the other side of the river; the company is the largest employer in Emmaboda Municipality.
The museum tells the story of the pumps together with the history of the company and the local area, and a visit includes a historical film and a film about Xylem today. Next to the museum there are toilets and a park with remains of the Stenberg family's old apple orchard.
