About the museum
Tryckerimuseet (the Printing Museum) is located in the old power station by Stampadammen in Johansfors. The power station was started in 1911 by the owner of the glassworks, who had bought the whole village of Broakulla and thereby the rights to the waterfalls in the Lyckebyån river, and the power station building itself was erected in 1925. The power plant was in the basement, and the house was otherwise used as a store and workshop.
During the 20th century the building was renovated by Broakulla samhällsförening (Broakulla Village Association), which set up the printing museum there. The machines come from Lundgrens tryckeri (Lundgren’s printing works), which was in another building in the village. There three generations of the Lundgren family printed and bound books until operations ceased when Birger Lundgren died in 1993. The machines, the oldest from the 19th century, were donated by the Allmänna arvsfonden (Swedish Inheritance Fund) and were able to stay in the area.
