About the museum
Glava glassworks in western Värmland was established in 1857 and, at the start of the 1900s, accounted for a large share of the window glass produced in Sweden. The glass was blown by hand using the traditional mouth-blowing method. Operations were closed in 1939.
The Bruksmuseet is primarily a meeting place that reflects the environment of the works. Here the entire production process for mouth-blown window glass is shown, along with the history after the closure. The works environment is well documented, with a rich collection of photographs, tools and drawings from the start to the closure.
The museum is run on a voluntary basis by Föreningen Bruksgården, which also manages the letting of premises, a summer café, art exhibitions and accommodation at Bruksgården. Glava glassworks borders the Glaskogen nature reserve.
